Ahead of the curve: A banker’s podcast – How frontline staff can help detect human trafficking
Know the red flags of human trafficking
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the news, public safety agencies, anti-trafficking task forces, advocacy organizations, and media outlets are raising concerns about the potential for increased human trafficking activity surrounding a major international sporting event. Human trafficking remains a persistent danger in communities around the world, and is often closer to home than you’d think. In this episode of Ahead of the Curve, we sit down with Amanda Elkanick Oder of the Texas Advocacy Project to explore how banks and credit unions can help detect human trafficking and even support survivors as they rebuild their financial lives.
Listen in to learn what key words and phrases frontline staff should be trained to investigate further, what challenges survivors of human trafficking face after leaving abusive situations, and how new payment rails are impacting the way human traffickers operate. Amanda also shares what training Texas Advocacy Project can offer financial institutions looking to shore up their communities against trafficking and how transaction data can also be an indicator of a financially abusive situation.
